We take aim at the William Archer
The William Archer in Wednesbury recently underwent a complete refurbishment, for which we were asked to produce the signage. This was a great project for us as it gave us the opportunity to showcase a lot of the skills we have – as you’re about to see.
The project required:
- Large scale signage wall mounts
- Illuminated 3D lettering for the pub name, plus embellishments, to the front and side
- Two illuminated projecting signs
- Two wall mounted exterior lamps
The wall mounts provide the backdrop for the signage and were UV printed with a wood effect on Dibond for durability. Printed across several 3′ sheets, it was important to ensure the wood grain matched up on each piece.
Moulded steel was chosen for the 3D lettering. This was treated to produce a tarnished look, along with the steel embellishments. The lettering was fixed to the wall mounts and backlit with bright LEDs to produce a halo effect. The whole signage unit was then secured to the front of the building above the door and to the side. The exterior lamps were fitted alongside UV printed clear acrylic signage advertising the sports channels available.
The projecting signs – the centrepiece of the whole of project – comprised four digitally cut discs of foamex. Sprayed silver/grey, they were then treated by hand to match the tarnished, distressed look of the main signage.
The finished signs were then mounted on black ironwork ready to be fitted to the building. Fittingly, the Latin motto on the crest reads “By skill, by iron, by energy”.
Both projecting signs were fixed to the building by our expert team, complete with LED lighting.
On the 6th of December 2018 he pub was unveiled by Labour councillor Elaine Costigan, whose late father’s name it now bears, with a ribbon cutting ceremony before it opened its doors to the public the following day.
